  • WAZALENDO SACCO EXTENDS SUPPORT TO BUKEDEA DISTRICT STUDENTS WITH EDUCATION AND HYGIENE ITEMS

Wazalendo Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (WSACCO) extended support to Christ the King Primary School in Akakaat, Bukedea District, by donating essential education and hygiene items on the 13th March 2025.

The donation included exercise books for students of primary one to primary seven and reusable sanitary pads for girls in the upper primary classes.

Representing  WSACCO’s Board of Directors, Col. Allan Kitanda, the Vice Chairman, emphasized that the donation aligns with the cooperative principle of “Concern for the Community.” He underscored the importance of collaboration between UPDF and local communities for the sustainability of the WSACCO. “This initiative is a testament to Wazalendo SACCO’s commitment not only to serving soldiers but also supporting the communities where its members come from,” Col. Kitanda remarked.

Speaking at the event, LC3 Chairman Mr. Ojekede Jackson commended the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) for fostering strong relationships between the military and local communities. He also applauded Wazalendo SACCO for going beyond its core mandate of improving members’ welfare by actively engaging in community support initiatives through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) function.

The school’s Headmaster, Mr. Emaru James, expressed gratitude to Wazalendo SACCO for addressing a critical challenge affecting girls in the district. He highlighted that many girls struggle to access sanitary pads, which forces them to miss school during their menstrual cycle.  This, in turn, contributes to high dropout rates and early marriages.

During the donation, Col. Kitanda was accompanied by  Board Members, including Maj Marian Kagoro (Board Member – Gender), Maj. Norah Ongodia (Board Member –Eastern), Capt. Dathan Bunanukye (Board Member – Western), Capt. Isaac Bisaalu (Board Member – Central), and S/Sgt. Osuko Peter (Board Member – West Nile Region). The event was also attended by LC 1 Chairman Mr. Omuron Charles, school staff, parents, and other invited guests.
