Wazalendo Savings and Credit Cooperative Society has joined UPDF for the army week activities that are taking place in the greater Masaka region ahead of the 44th Uganda People’s Defence Forces birthday celebration on the 6th of February 2025 in Kyotera District.
In his opening remarks, Brig Gen Joseph Freddy Onata said that training and sharing knowledge and experiences with selected SACCOs in the the region is one way of giving back to the community and fostering growth of the SACCO sector. The flag off of the training was held on 31st January 2025 at PEWOSA SACCO Kabula Lyantonde District
” The purpose of the training is to share best practices of SACCO management with other SACCO leaders in order to build their confidence so that they are able to mobilize their members to save, accumulate capital and run sustainable SACCOs. Besides the training, we have donated text books and reusable sanitary towels to support the efforts to keep our children in schools, ” He said.
Onata further emphasized the importance of quality service and member satisfaction as a basis for sustainable growth of SACCOs.
The Chairman LC5 Lyantonde District Local government, Mr Byamuhangi Fred, commended the UPDF for the good working relationship with the Wanaichi. “It is a great experience for Lyantonde SACCOs to interact with the military officers on issues of welfare. I pray that the interaction will be helpful to other SACCOs and enable them to improve their performance on financial management and become better SACCOs, ” said the Chairman LC5 Lyantonde.
Rev Ben Katunguka who represented the Chairperson of the Board of Directors PEWOSA stressed that the training by Wazalendo has touched crucial important areas among others; savings mobilization, growing other revenue streams and focusing on member education.
The SACCO training is being carried out in the districts of Sembabule, Lyantonde, Lwengo, Bukomansimbi, Kalungu, Kalangala, Kyotera, Rakai and Masaka City.
WSACCO training team includes the Corporate Communications Manager Lt Col Akasius Mbabaisi, Head Information and Security Maj Livingstone Musiime and Capt Peterson Mateso Personal Assistant to the CEO.
