The remarks were made by Dr Paul Malunda who represented the Director General of UMI Dr James Nkata at the closure of the first phase of a 6 days performance management training for Board of Directors (BOD) and Senior Management of WSACCO at the SACCO Headquarters in Kiwatule Kampala on the 30th June 2022.
The participants were phased into two groups. The first phase participants were drawn from the BOD and the top management. This group started their training on 28th and ended on 30th June 22. The second phase participants will be other managers from the branches of the SACCO across the country.
Dr Mulunda appreciated WSACCO for inviting UMI to facilitate the training on performance management processes which will enhance the capacity of BOD and management to implement their strategic plan to achieve the intended outcome.
” When we partner, we bring out positive results, we learn from each other and this enables us to share experiences and transfer knowledge. We expect that after this training, WSACCO shall be able to allign all efforts towards the organizations vision and mission and hence realizing better results” noted Dr Malunda.
The Vice Chairman Board of Directors Wazalendo Lt Col Allan Kitanda thanked the UMI for partnering with WSACCO always through training to improve performance. He added that it’s always better to teach someone before tasking.
” Every step you move forward you will never go back and it is evident that the knowledge we have got from the training shall not leave us the same”. Col Kitanda stressed.
Kitanda appreciated the efforts of the Chief Executive Officer and his team to drive WSACCO in right direction. I encourage you to continue planing for such trainings and on behalf of the BOD, I pledge to fully support such training initiatives.
The Chief Executive Officer Col Joseph Freddy Onata said that he was delighted to see WSACCO moving such a journey. He noted that after the training, the participants shall be able to understand and align their efforts and their general understanding of the vision and mission of WSACCO and gear all efforts towards attaining it’s strategic objective.
” In the process of trying to standardize our processes and managing performance, we identified some gaps that needed closing and this training has addressed those gaps.
At the inception of the SACCO, our challenge was mobilizing membership and savings but that is no longer a problem because we have grown membership, savings, loan portfolio and asset base significantly. That is why we are the biggest and we’ll managed SACCO in Uganda. Our new challenge is how to improve further, sustain the good performance and manage growth. That is the reason why we needed this training ” stressed the CEO.
The WSACCO CEO noted that being a learning institution, it was vital to learn from the best and UMI fits that bill. He pledged that WSACCO is going to ensure that members of staff are encouraged to identify areas of training in which the opportunities offered by UMI can be exploited to improve their skills and competencies so that they are supported.
He said that the BoD shall be approached for both individual and organizational improvement support.
He encouraged the participants to share the knowledge acquired with those who didn’t get the opportunity to attend the training so that there is a holistic benefit to the organization.
