WSACCO WAZALENDO SAVINGS AND CREDIT COOPERATIVE SOCIETY LIMITED

Wazalendo Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (WSACCO) has been recognised as a model SACCO in Uganda and among the top ten fastest growing SACCOs in Africa. The recognition was made by the Executive Director of African Confederation for Cooperative Savings and Credit Association (ACCOSCA) Mr George Ombado during a strategic assessment at WSACCO Headquarter in Kiwatule.
ACCOSCA is the Continental body that brings together National Cooperatives Associations in Africa with its Headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. According to Mr Ombado, ACCOSCA Board of Directors comprising of eight members drawn from 7 countries that include; Tanzania, Botswana, Malawi, Ghana, Eswatini, Kenya and the Gambia. The delegation was led by Chairperson of ACCOSCA Madam Somoe Nguhwe, who is also the Chairperson of TANESCO SACCO in Tanzania.
According to the ACCOSCA Chairperson. the delegation is in Uganda for strategic plan assessment but also to show isolidarity to Uganda’s UCSCU in championing the development of the SACCO industry. “During our visit, we identified two progressive SACCOs in Uganda that include the Parliamentary SACCO and Wazalendo SACCO, which we have shared experiences with,”said Mr Ombado
Mr Ombado acknowledged Wazalendo SACCO as the biggest and fastest growing SACCO in Uganda and now among the top ten SACCOs in Africa. He linked the growth of Wazalendo SACCO to good leadership, professionalism, quality of service rendered to members, and the extent of its community engagements. ” We hope through these kind of relationships with successful SACCOs, we are going to have similar SACCOs like Wazalendo which are more progressive in Africa that will promote economic empowerment of the population through the SACCO Business Model” stressed the Executive Director ACCOSCA.
Ombado highlighted the big difference between the commercial banks and the SACCOs in terms of outreach to the communities and the focus on member welfare. “These are some of the extra ordinary things in which Wazalendo SACCO is doing very well.” He stressed
The Wazalendo SACCO Executive Officer, Col Joseph Freddy Onata, who spoke on behalf of the Chairman Board of Directors Lt Gen Sam Kavuma, appreciated the ACCOSCA leadership for choosing Wazalendo as one of the best places to visit and share experiences that will facilitate the growth of other SACCOs.
” We are privileged to host the ACCOSCA leadership who are here on strategic assessment visits. We have shared with them our status and the things that we do and they have appreciated. ACCOSCA has pledged more opportunities for Wazalendo SACCO to continue learning and improving the services offered to the members.” Noted Col Onata.
He concluded by appreciating ACCOSCA and UCSCU for the continued support given to Wazalendo in terms of capacity building as well as lobby and advocacy.
In attendance were, the Wazalendo SACCO Director of Finance and Administration Lt Col Benon Kato, the Acting Director of Operations Maj Arthur Kwezi and the Heads of Departments.
