WAZALENDO SACCO’S SUPCO GETS NEW OFFICE BEARERS

The Chairman Supervisory Committee (SUPCO) of Wazalendo SACCO Brig Gen Simon Nicholas Ocan has handed over office to Col Justus Rukundo in a function held at WSACCO Headquarters in Kiwatule Kampala. 

 

Gen Ocan’s handing over office stems from his deployment to Burundi as Uganda Defence Attache in August 2022 by the UPDF leadership. 

 

Ocan was elected as the Chairman SUPCO during the 16th Annual General meeting held on 24th March 2022 at UMEC in Lugazi Buikwe District.

 

In his handover remarks, Gen Ocan appreciated the UPDF leadership for the new tasking given to him as a Defence Attache to Burundi. He also thanked members of Wazalendo SACCO who elected him as Supervisory Committee Chairman. 

 

Gen Ocan congratulated the incoming Chairman Col Justus Rukundo and asked the SUPCO team to maintain cooperation with the Board of Directors and Management so that they can collectively enable WSACCO to deliver it’s mandate . 

 

Ocan asked the three organs of WSACCO to work towards achieving the social objective of improving members’ welfare which he said is the purpose for which WSACCO was established. 

 

He also thanked BOD and Management for expanding WSACCO branch network and creating convenience to members using diverse channels including mobile banking. 

 

At the time of his appointment as Defence Attache to Burundi, Ocan was serving as General Secretary National Defence College (NDC) Jinja. 

 

Gen Ocan has served WSACCO in different capacities including among others; Chairman SUPCO 1st March – 26th October 2022, Chief Executive Officer 2015- 2019, Chairman BOD 2010- 2012 and Vice Chairman BOD 2008-2010.

 

On behalf of the BOD Col Dan Tizihwayo congratulated Gen Ocan upon the new appointment and reported that the Board of Directors appreciates Gen Ocan for his efforts and the good job that SUPCO has done during his short tenure as Chairman. He pledged total support to the Committee to enable them perform better. 

 

The Chief Executive Officer Col Joseph Freddy Onata applauded Gen Ocan for the commitment, zeal and the love for WSACCO that he has demonstrated over time in different positions he has held in the SACCO.

 

Onata asked the other members of the SUPCO to emulate the work ethic of Gen Ocan that has enabled him to leave behind an admirable legacy. Col Onata pledged his commitment and support to enable SUPCO discharge their duties.

 

The incoming Chairman Col Justus Rukundo extended his sincere gratitude to Brig Ocan for mentoring him and entrusting him with the responsibility of Chairman SUPCO. Col Rukundo described Gen Ocan as a selfless leader who gives his all to ensure that his subordinates get the right information and share from his experiences. “I took over as Vice Chairman SUPCO when I did not know much in terms of WSACCO supervision but through the mentorship and methods of work of Gen Ocan, I have been able to read from his notes and learn from his experience”. Said Col Rukundo. 

 

The Supervisory Committee now comprises of the following members, Col Justus Rukundo – Chairman,

Maj Alex Kijuma Asiimwe – Vice Chairman and Lt Asha Praise Mbwali as the Secretary.
