Wazalendo Savings and Credit Cooperative Society (WSACCO) registered a number of activities from 2nd August to 2nd September 2022 as highlighted below;
1. WSACCO reshuffled and appointed some of it’s managers and staff to a total of 39 in number to serve in different capacities across it’s 19 branches spread across the country. Their handover and takeover were officiated by the Director of Operations Mr Atalyeba William and Lt Col Akasius Mpabaisi Corporate Communications Manager from the 02-06 August 2022.
2. On 5th August WSACCO visited it’s memebers of 305 Brigade at Sangobay Mutukula boarder and extended member education, Waza mobile registration and donation of sports gear. The team was led by the Director Operations Mr Atalyeba William on behalf of the Chief Executive Officer Col Joseph Freddy Onata.
3. On 18th August, The Head of Finance Maj Julius Katanaka under Africa CFO Awards 2022 held in Pretoria South Africa was Recognized of his nomination as a finalist in the category “Financial Services” and category “Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs)”. The ACCA Africa CFO Awards recognize outstanding performance, raise the profile of the role, highlight the essential role that CFOs and the finance functions play within organisations, build finance practices that build resilient business and inspire the upcoming finance leaders and CEOs. He was the only Ugandan who made it to the finals.
4. On 27th August, WSACCO delegation of 03 travelled to Kingdom of Eswatini to attend the 22nd Annual Savings and Credit Associations (SACCA) Congress which commenced on 28th August 2022. The team was headed by the Chief Executive Officer Col Joseph Freddy Onata. The other team members were Maj Mariam Kagoro; BOD member representing gender and Ms Beth Kiiza the Head of Internal Audit.
5. On 30th August, Wazalendo SACCO condoled with the family of the late Hon Gen Elly Tumwine in recognition of his great contribution to WSACCO. The late Gen Tumwine designed WSACCO Logo and Flag. He was one of the top savers.
6. On 31st August, WSACCO was handed over land space at Singo barracks offered by MODVA for the construction of Singo Cash branch as a means of extending services closer to the memebers. The land was received by the Director Operations who heads the branch construction commitee, witnessed by WSACCO technical team including; the Head of ICT Maj Arthur Kwezi, Legal officer Capt Abel Mwesigye, WSACCO Engineer Capt Daniel Masiko and the unit Administration of Singo Barracks.
7. On 1st September, Cooperative Insurance Company (CIC) team paid a courtesy visit to Wazalendo. CIC is an insurance company owned, funded and managed by member Cooperatives. CIC whose headquarter is in Kenya, has expanded it’s network to other countries like; Uganda, Malawi and S.Sudan.
Dr Nelson Kuria the C/Man BOD CIC Kenya and Mr Ivan Asiimwe General Secretary Uganda Cooperatives Alliance – UCA who doubles as the BOD chairman CIC Uganda represented the CIC team from Kenya. The purpose of the visit was to share knowledge on how to support the Cooperative movement where the economy can be owned by the Cooperators through forming their own wealth generating companies to overcome exploitation from financiers who mind about their profits and forget the common person.
8. On 2nd September, the DOP Mr Atalyeba William represented the CEO to present at a high level Cooperatives CEO’s Summit under the theme “Enhancing Efficiency and Financial stability in the Cooperatives sector”. He presented on Effeciency determinants for successful cooperative Movement. WSACCO was nominated for this as the top SACCO in Uganda and among the top SACCOs in Africa. The event was held at Golf Course Hotel Kampala.
9. Still on 2nd September, the Director Finance and Administration Lt col Yusuf Buha Magero received WSACCO Award of “FINANCE TEAM” of the year 2022 at the ICPAU Annual Seminar held in Entebbe. The DFA represented the CEO who was out of the country for SACCA Congress.
10. Further more, on the 2nd September, a team of 04 WSACCO staff reported for a one month Ideological training course at National Leadership Institute Kyankwanzi. This is the first time WSACCO civilian staff undertake this kind of training. The staff who are attending the training include; Ms Tumukunde Scovia Branch Manager Kakiri, Mr Asiimwe Charles Marketing officer Wazalendo, Mr Ongom Emmanuel Loans Officer Kaweweta and Mr Amanu Ambrose Branch Manager Arua. The rest of the civilian staff are encouraged to participate when WSACCO gets slots in subsequent intakes.
11. The construction of Moroto cash branch is ongoing having kicked off on 23rd August 2022.
